Midway UMC of Forsyth Co.
www.midwayumc.orgMidway United Methodist Church has been a part of the community since the beginning. In the 1830s – about the time Forsyth County was incorporated – the first congregation came together and built a small wood-frame church where the current chapel stands today. A tornado destroyed that original building in 1920. Undaunted, the congregation came together to rebuild it. Slowly, carefully, with infinite faith, they created one of the most beautiful chapels in the state from the remnants of the pine trees downed by the storm, and it remains a testament to the strength and vision of the Midway UMC family. Fingerprints from those dedicated saints remain visible today in parts of the chapel, as are several original pews dating back to the 1800s. The church grew with the community over the decades, adding: Educational building, which now houses Midway Preschool (200+ students) Sanctuary with seating for 300+ Fellowship Hall Commercial-grade kitchen Full-size gymnasium Classrooms Newly remodeled offices and Welcome Center Gathering Area for receptions, with couches, bistro tables/chairs, coffee bar Library and history center Newly-remodeled youth room Belltower with chimes Covered entrance with circle drive Over time, signature programs and ministries were established, many of which are a mainstay in the area. Through the successes and the challenges of the decades, clergy, staff, and congregation of Midway UMC persevered with hope and resilience. Before COVID-19, Midway hosted groups and events every day of the week, including support groups, civic groups, community meetings and much more, making it an important entity for the community at large, as well as its congregation. Recognizing that a church is not the building but its people, Midway seeks to share Christ’s love with our neighbors - locally, regionally, and globally.
