Coined by Amy Edmondson,PhD, psychological safety is the degree to which someone believes that their environment is safe for interpersonal risk taking, and that they will not be penalized for asking for help, feedback, or making a well-intentioned mistake at the team level. In a psychologically safe team there is a shared belief that the team is safe for interpersonal risk taking, and speaking up, sharing information and taking ownership is rewarded.
