Siempre Energy
www.siempreenergy.comSiempre Energy is a social business initiative led by postgraduate students from EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), Karolinska Institutet and Universidad de Oviedo. It intends to deploy off-grid solar home systems in Guatemalan rural households and schools. Through a social business model the company envisions to increase local health and education while reducing poverty, thus coping with the country’s most pressing needs. Guatemala is one of the poorest countries in Latin America with 49 % of Guatemalan living in rural areas. One quarter of these areas are still lacking access to electricity, letting 2.5 millions inhabitant rely on expensive, inefficient, and harmful fossil fuels and gasoline engines. With an overall median age of 19 years, those to suffer most from this condition are children. Given the proven positive correlation between access to electricity and wealth, health, and education, we envision to be an active part in supporting the rural areas in Guatemala to develop. Additionally, we plan to employ rural schools with electricity to provide the people the possibility of participating in online and evening classes. Our mission is to found Siempre as a social business model to be able to provide the maximum support for prolonged development. We believe that our diverse and international group with backgrounds in the energy and health sector, is a ideal basis to found such a live changing company.
