Sussan Lari was born in Iran and is a graduate of the University of Tehran’s School of Architecture; she continued her studies in America and graduated from the Urban Design Program of the University of Pennsylvania with a Master’s of Architecture and a Master’s of Planning in 1977. She began her professional career with the Eggers Group P.C., Architects, Planners, Interior Designers, where she was the first woman to be named Vice President, and stayed with them from 1977 to 1990. During those years she was fully in charge of Architecture and Interior Architecture Design Services and managed large-scale projects for companies including KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, PepsiCo, Exxon Office Systems, and others. She also handled projects for medical offices, a home for the aged, and many college and university projects for institutions around the country, including Indiana University, Washington University in Saint Louis, West Point Military Academy, the University of Vermont, and West Virginia State College. During her years with the Eggers Group, Sussan also gained invaluable experience and insight in the art of Interior Design and learned to apply her sense of architectural proportions as a source of her inspiration. After giving birth to her daughter, Sussan briefly worked for a firm based in Westchester, NY, as Director of Design. A small team of close coworkers from the Eggers Group joined her to continue their successful collaboration. Encouraged by this loyalty Sussan and her partner Farhad Mechkat decided to open their own firm – Sussan Lari Architect PC – in 1992, jumpstarting the new company with the help of the team and devoting themselves to projects dear to their heart.
