Vision for a Nation (VFAN) is an award-winning UK charity. We build the capacity of health workforces in developing countries to offer basic eye care as part of their existing primary healthcare provision. Our work improves the quality of life for those with poor vision by transforming access to eye care services, which enables people to fully contribute socially and economically to their communities. Over the last 8 years with the support of our founder, philanthropist James Chen, together with funding from DFID, USAID and the UBS Optimus Foundation we have transformed eye care in Rwanda. VFAN now has exciting plans to expand; in 2018 we launched an innovative multi-year programme in Ghana and intend to establish new projects in further countries in Africa and Asia during 2020 and 2021. We are exploring partnerships with global corporations to develop eye care programmes for their staff and customers and will also be harnessing the power of technology – by working with entrepreneurs, tech firms and innovators so that the challenge of poor vision can be addressed quickly and effectively.
