r0g_agency
www.openculture.agencyThe r0g_agency is a Berlin-based nonprofit dedicated to partnering with local grassroots organizations and governments to support open knowledge, open technology, and peacebuilding efforts in the Global South, specifically those regions undergoing rapid and fundamental transformation. We at the r0g_agency believe that open knowledge has the potential to create healthy, open societies. The word ‘open’ is borrowed from the tech world and is used to describe something (texts, software, technology, information) that is accessible by the general public, and is free to be used and redistributed without legal or technological restrictions, removing barriers that might otherwise stand between individuals and the information they need. Our current projects: #defyhatenow focuses on education and training in countering hate speech online, and provides field guides in both English and French. #migrantmedianetwork engages diaspora communities through social media and fosters a discussion regarding how to make informed migration choices. #ASKnet links six community based youth-led innovation hubs in South Sudan, Uganda and Kenya and conducts workshops which cover topics such as open source hardware + software, entrepreneurship, media production, gender equality awareness, trauma healing, and financial literacy.
