Southill Community Energy
www.southillcommunityenergy.coopSouthill Community Energy (SCE) is a ‘community benefit society’ that aims to encourage, inspire and empower local people and organisations to reduce their carbon emissions and impact on the environment. SCE is owned by a community of members. SCE developed, owns and operates Southill Solar, a 4.5MW PV generator in Oxfordshire, which has been generating green electricity since November 2016. SCE provides funding for local low-carbon initiatives in the community from the surpluses generated by our solar farm, after we pay operating costs and pay interest to our members. To date (2022) SCE has provided £175,000 of community benefit. SCE should have on average £30,000 a year to invest locally. That’s around £750,000 over the life of the project.
