Wakefield District Sight Aid
www.wdsa.org.ukWakefield District Sight Aid is proud to have been supporting people living with sight loss across the Wakefield District for over 150 years. Our vision: We believe that people living with sight loss in our community should have access to the same opportunities and quality of life as fully sighted people. We want to support all blind and partially sighted people across the Wakefield district area, raise awareness about good eye health and care, and reduce social isolation. Our services are designed to support and empower people to live full and happy lives through a range of practical and wider wellbeing-focused services. Our practical services include home visits, to assess for, advise on the use of, and provide certain safety equipment to help people live more confidently and independently at home. This service is made possible by our long-standing partnership with our colleagues at Wakefield Council with whom we have a funding agreement. We also run regular Equipment Demonstration and Advice Days, where people can come and experience a range of specialist equipment and assistive technology, get confidential advice, and share a cuppa and companionship with others. We are thrilled to have recently started working in partnership with RNIB as a delivery partner for the Living Well With Sight Loss course, designed to help people face their diagnosis and the future with confidence and hope. Our wider wellbeing services are around tackling social isolation and promoting good mental health. Our work includes a programme of community outreach activities and befriending, very much aligned with the New Economics Foundation's Five Ways to Wellbeing agenda. We also campaign on local and national issues relating to sight loss, and work in partnership with sight care professionals to raise awareness of the importance of good eye health and care.
