Tapera Industries Limited
www.taperabio.bizTapera Industries was started as a pilot project to investigate the viability of the business of biodiesel priduction in Zambia. With relative success and proven ability to produce and supply the biofuel, we were not able to scale up due to limitations in industry policy which made the fuel too expensive to compete with traditional fossil fuels, despite being locally produced. Tapera has since shifted its focus from energy to hygiene. As the biofuel process requires vegetable oils to make the biodiesel, the vegetable oils can be used in the production of natural soap. Natural soap, fondly known as chinkondia by indigenous Zambians, is a soap that is made using the original soap saponification process of reacting vegetable oil with caustic lye. The process does not require the harsh chemicals such as phosphates which are used in the leading mass produced detergent soap bars, therefore does not react with the users skin the way chemical soaps do (https://fairesoapworks.com/blogs/our-tales/handmade-soap-vs-commercial-soaps). Our focal adjustment is still in line with our environmental preservation agenda in that, we are now focused on preserving the worlds water by reducing the chemical content reaching our water ways, therefore saving marine life.
