The Shaka Franklin Foundation for Youth is a non profit 501 (C)(3) organization founded in 1990 to address the serious problem of youth suicide in Colorado and the nation. Over the past 25 years hundreds of presentations have been made on suicide, depression and self destructive behavior to schools, youth groups parents teachers and professionals. The Shaka Franklin Foundation has positively touched the lives of thousands of young people across the United States and many other countries. Mental health is a serious issue on college campuses. New in 2016, the SHAKA ON THE MOVE program will travel to college campuses around the state and the country carrying information on mental health, suicide prevention/intervention, depression and other disorders. SHAKA ON THE MOVE will be ready to participate in college health fairs, provide informal counseling and discussion sessions and presentations to student and faculty groups. The first stops for this traveling program are already in the works for the University of Colorado Denver and Colorado State University. An important part of The Shaka Franklin Foundation for Youth is to dispel the stigmas surrounding mental health and encourage people to talk and seek professional help.
