Stepping Stones is a not-for-profit charitable organization registered in Hong Kong and Shanghai with a mission to improve the education and general welfare of disadvantaged children in China. Stepping Stones works with expatriate and local Chinese volunteers to teach English in Shanghai’s migrant schools and community centres. Stepping Stones currently recruits, trains, coordinates, and supports around 300 volunteers to teach 5,000 students in 30 migrant schools and community centres in and around Shanghai. We also regularly take groups of volunteers to teach English to children in rural schools outside of Shanghai and run other charitable and educational projects including teaching digital literacy and the provision of eye care. This programme offers a rewarding way to get to know another side of China’s society and to contribute in a meaningful way to the education of under-privileged children.
