Student Investment Advisory Service (SIAS)
beedie.sfu.caEvery fall, a select group of students from the Master of Science in Finance Program are invited to help manage the Student Investment Advisory Service (SIAS) Fund. SIAS is Canada's largest student-run investment fund and one of the largest such funds in North America. This endowment portfolio is funded by generous donations from HSBC Canada and the Lohn Foundation. The fund is lead by team leaders in the following areas: compliance, risk, global macro, operations, Canadian Fixed income, U.S equity, Canadian equity, and ESG, each accompanied by a team of analysts, providing insights in order to make robust investment decisions. The SIAS fund allows students to hone their quantitative knowledge through analysis, as well as qualitative skills in the form of team management and presentations. Quarterly presentations are completed, where performance is adjudicated against relative benchmark indices. In aggregate, the SIAS fund offers students a unique opportunity to gain real-world investment experience, as they move forward in their careers.
