Saint James Presbyterian Church was founded by a group of former slaves armed with little more than vision, faith in God, and a strong desire to worship on their own. In 1867, they set out from First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro to establish a Presbyterian Church where African Americans could realize their fervent commitment to faith, education and service. Saint James continues after 150 years to positively impact the Greensboro, NC community. The servant leadership of church members continues to influence the city of Greensboro, state, and nation. We will celebrate the history of parishioners who earned leadership roles in education, medicine, the U.S. military as well as in government, business, and community service. The year 2017 provides opportunity to celebrate those who were in the forefront of breaking down racist and discriminatory practices in the Jim Crow South. As we prepare to celebrate under the leadership of our pastor, the Reverend Doctor Diane Givens Moffett, the congregation continues a strong belief in and support of religious, educational, civic and social causes.
