Centre for Oncology Informatics

Although it is knives, radiation and poisons that cure cancer, their application is determined by knowledge. So knowledge cures Cancer! We use some of what we already know, so by knowing more from what we already have, and applying more of what we know, we will cure more cancers, at a lower personal and financial cost. More healing and less harm comes from Discovery, so we should gather more information, and use more knowledge. The COI is a collaboration between academicians and clinicians focussing on the application of a wide range of Informatics approaches and techniques in the setting of cancer. The clinicians work in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Cancer & Haematology Network, which provides Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care service provision across multiple sites in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions. The academicians work at the University of Wollongong, a modern, progressive, top 2% university based primarily in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven, but with satellite institutions in the region, as well as Dubai and Sydney. The collaboration however does not restrict itself to this geographic area, and invites all with an interest in the area of Radiation & Medical Oncology Informatics (incorporating Radiomics, Videomics and FOSS development in Oncology) to be involved.
