Private School Axis’ innovative approach to partnership with Los Angeles area independent schools opens up new avenues for students and families of color to access paths to success while navigating the independent school system. The Axis creates a bridge between families and schools by helping under-served families of color explore, apply to, transition into, and navigate independent schools in a first-of-its kind, comprehensive model rooted in a relational, community-building, service-oriented approach. With a custom designed accreditation process and system, Private School Axis will work with Partner Schools to articulate, explore, and self reflect on their policies and practices around diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), resulting in a DEI self study. Using the self study as a guide, members of the Private School Axis Team will then visit Partner Schools and assess the DEI policies and practices explored in the self study, using an inquiry-based 360 degree approach. The accreditation process will culminate with feedback, goal setting, and the establishment of regularly scheduled check-ins to assess Partner School’s progress towards meeting their newly established diversity, equity and inclusion goals. In full support of our Partner Schools’ desires to have their administrative teams, faculty and staff best reflect their diverse student populations, Private School Axis will offer placement services for underrepresented educators of color in our Partner Schools. Qualified educators of color will be supported on their journeys while exploring, applying to, and transitioning into a school that aligns with their educational philosophy and professional goals.
