Magpie Farm
www.magpiefarmnm.comWe are a permacultur farm at 7500' in Gallina, NM. We are blessed with a healthy eco-system to begin our development of this land. This is the first year of commercial production of our 3 years of getting to know the land, eco-system, climate, and soil. We will be developing the first 3 acres of field production, testing grains, and continuing the production from our gardens this year. We are currently designing a permacultured 4 season aquaponic greenhouse that is scalable, modular, affordable, provides a profit for the farm, and integrates a whole farm philosophy assuring a closed-loop system in which all needed fish and livestock food is produced on site. Raw materials from outside our township will be extremely limited. The information needed to build and operate this system will be available free to the public upon its completion. It will cost $13 a sqft. 3,000 and 5,000 sqft designs are being finalized and we are seeking funding to produce the prototypes. Expected yields on the 3,000sqft design are expected to average 540 pounds of produce and 125 pounds of fish a week. We hope that with these designs we can offer rural America a viable solution to the challenges of water, year round profits, marketing, climate change, brain and labor drain, plus many more. We think this system when added to a existing farm will greatly improve the whole farms quality, health, flavor, productivity and profit.
