Toronto North Support Services

www.tnss.ca

Toronto North Support Services was incorporated in 1992 to provide community based mental health services in the North York area. The agency has grown and the services have expanded significantly since that time. Today our catchment area includes the former North York and the area of mid-town referred to as "North Toronto" (Eglinton Ave to Steeles Ave, between the Humber River and Victoria Park Ave). Although most of our referrals come from this area, we continue to follow clients as they move to other parts of Toronto. We provide two distinct programs: Community Support for individuals with a major mental illness, and Street Outreach to homeless individuals. Our major funders are the Central LHIN (Local Health Integration Network) and the City of Toronto. We have a small volunteer program and an active student program. A number of partnerships with other community organizations and hospitals allow us to better serve our clients. We provide intensive and flexible individual support to about 350 individuals yearly, and outreach to another 450. Thirty staff positions are filled by individuals who bring a wide variety of skills, experience, education and cultures. Each of them contributes in a unique way in our efforts to serve a very diverse client population. The agency is committed to supporting diversity in all of its facets. The 15 member Board of Directors is comprised of consumers, family members, service providers and other community representatives. The Board plays an active role in ensuring that the agency follows its mandate and mission in a responsible manner.
