Afribbean Tech Collective
www.affribbeantechcollective.worksThe Afribbean Tech Collective is committed to building multi-generational communities of African x Caribbean women pursuing creative and tech-based careers. Our experiences inspired a vision to foster creative and technological growth in African x Caribbean women, create spaces where we can celebrate each other and be unapologetic about our ambition. We're driven by a desire to explore the shared history that we embody, and use that to foster sisterhood and drive cross-continental collaboration. Through our events and programs, we are addressing the underrepresentation of women in tech on the continent and the islands at all stages of their lives. With digital adoption happening faster than the world anticipated, it cannot be a privilege for African x Caribbean middle school kids to study Computer Science. Computer Science should be available to all and that's why we are working on a middle school program. As tech majors ourselves, we know that starting out in a tech major can be pretty weird, especially if you have not taken any technical classes before and are unsure about what exactly being a Computer Science or Engineering major means. This is why we created ACX-T - our high school immersion program. {Virtual} College is a fun time and we believe supporting high school girls through this program will enrich their undergrad experience. Lastly, we have our online community for African x Caribbean women,10X Women To Tech, as our main focus in our college program. As Afribbean women, most of us relate to being the only in class, being regarded as the token or being among the few in career or professional development programs. In this community, we work together and support each other to dispel the normalization of that through our focus areas: Education, Entrepreneurship and Passing It Forward. To us, it is imperative that more communities like ours be created and sustained and that's why collaboration with other communities is key to our programming.
