Life Education Wessex & Thames Valley are an independent, self-supporting charity working in partnership with schools across: Wessex - Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset, Devon & Cornwall Thames Valley - Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire & East Swindon We are a delivery partner of Coram Life Education, the leading charity provider of relationships, health, wellbeing and drugs education to almost half a million children across the UK, delivered under the strapline ‘Helping Children Make Healthy Choices’. Our specially trained Educators use evidence-based, interactive and creative methods and resources to stimulate curiosity and imagination amongst children aged between 3 and 13 years. Our engaging and memorable, age-appropriate life skills workshops are delivered in children's own classrooms or the school hall and we also offer "SCARF Live Online" virtual workshops. Children meet Harold the Giraffe puppet (‘Healthy Harold’) and his friends; and, through discussions, group activities, drama and watching short films, learn about healthy eating; the body and how it works; mental wellbeing; legal and illegal drugs and their effects; friendships and their influence; and how choices and behaviours can affect children’s health and education outcomes. Workshop content includes challenging social norms – misperceptions of peers’ engagement with risky behaviour – to engender more positive behaviours. Alongside our workshops, online teacher resources called SCARF (which represents our values for children of Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship) provide a whole-school approach to building these essential foundations – crucial for children to achieve their best, academically and socially. The SCARF framework of lessons and resources meets all DfE requirements for statutory Relationships and Health Education in primary schools.
