The Faculty of Materials Science and Technology in Trnava was established on 1 January 1986 by decree of the Czechoslovak Government. It was originally named the Faculty of Machine Technology. Social changes and Faculty developmentevoked new needs and the Faculty had tomeet the requirement for changing the Faculty orientation on technologies on wider basis. In1991 the Faculty was renamed as the STU (Slovak University of Technology) Faculty of Materials Science and Technology in Trnava. Faculty is focused on education of a university type graduate for industrial production, and mechanichal engineering in particular. The accent is put on graduates adaptability and operativeness to increase their individual as well as social implementation on job market environment. Taking the study programmes in consideration, we can say that the Faculty is unique in Slovakia. In the process of complete accreditation of higher education in the Slovak Republic, the Faculty is accredited as a university faculty. In the present time, about 5000 students study at the Faculty in various courses. Faculty became an awarded finalist of the Slovak Republic National Quality Award 2008 in the category "other public sector organisations“.
