Since the University foundation in 1930, its history is closely connected with aircraft engineering and science global development. At different periods, the following well-known scientist and aerospace engineers worked in KhAI: Prof. I. G. Neman, Prof. A. M. Liulka, Designer General O.K. Antonov, etc. Today more than 12 000 students and 160 PhD students are trained at the University. 700 lecturers (incl. more than 100 Professors and Doctors of Sciences, 400 Associate Professors and Candidates of Sciences) and above 2000 teaching staff members are employed at the KhAI. The KhAI is a member of International Association of Universities (IAU/UNESCO), Partnership of a European Group of Aeronautics and Space Universities (PEGASUS), European Aeronautic Science Network (EASN), The Magna Charta of the European Universities (Magna Charta Universitatum), International Association of Technical Universities from CIS Countries, Academic Association of CIS Countries Higher Education Institutions. Being a well-known University, the KhAI is also a globally recognized aerospace research centre. It is focused on innovative research across the aerospace industry, and has worked with AIRBUS, ONERA, Thales Alenia, Boeing, EOARD, IAI, AVIC, etc. KhAI has its branches in Mexico, Germany, Finland and China and cooperates with the firstrate national manufacturers of the aircraft engineering like «ANTONOV», Motor Sich, and participates in the international programs «ALPHA» and «SEALAUNCH».
