Generation S.O.S.

“Addiction Kills. Prevention Saves Lives.” Generation S.O.S. is a unique non-profit organization that empowers teens and young adults to start talking about the risks of substance misuse, addiction, and overdose – the leading cause of death among people under 30 years of age in our country. Founded in 2015 by Robin Aviv, we are building a nationwide community of teens and young adults who support each other, make smarter choices about substance use, and get help if they're struggling. CEO, Jim Hood joined this cause after his oldest boy, Austin, died of an accidental overdose. Generation S.O.S. has chapters in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, and Fairfield County, CT, with new chapters opening every year. We also have dozens of clubs -- in high schools, colleges, places of worship, or other community organizations – where teens and young adults can safely talk about substance use/misuse problems and concerns without stigma or shame. S.O.S. stands for "Sharing our Stories." At each Generation S.O.S. meeting, a sober, young adult shares his or her story of how substance use spiraled out of control to become a darker habit that nearly destroyed their life. Their stories are often difficult to listen to, but their journeys are so enlightening and inspirational. The message is simple and powerful: "We all feel anxious and isolated from time-to-time. Talk to a friend, get help if you're struggling. But don't make the same mistakes I did." Generation S.O.S. prides itself on its operating efficiency and transparency and is the recipient of the GuideStar 2021 Silver Seal of Transparency.
