RailHaul is developing self-propelled, electric-hybrid, semi-autonomous, heavy haul freight car systems. Targeted for “replacement of heavy haul mine trucks”, “moving containers at ports”, and “accessing stranded resources and remote communities”. Saving 25-50% capital costs, 15-30% operating costs and up to 100% of GHG emissions. For the mining use case, the system uses a dual side dump, 120 tonne capacity ore-car or sealed concentrate car with standard gauge rail panel segments. Hybrid systems can be direct overhead power, plug in at base station or entirely independent (energy harvesting) vehicles. Primary power is from an 440 MWh available onboard battery system. Remote operated and semi-autonomous rail provides a bridging technology to on road and off road remote operated and semi-autonomous heavy freight trucks.
