FOUNDING Pratit means having a passion or conviction to make genuine change in Sanskrit, and with this spirit in mind, Pratit was founded in 2007. MISSION Pratit is dedicated to achieving health equity in underserved urban communities in Kolkata, India. Our focus is on indigent areas plagued by poor infrastructure, low literacy levels, and heavy disease burden. RESULTS Pratit has directly impacted some of the most impoverished areas in South Asia. In 2017: -2,226 patients were treated in our medical clinics -921 patients were registered in our patient medical system -881 diagnostic blood tests were performed -423 medical imaging tests were administered. All treatments were performed with zero cost to the patient. PROCESS To achieve our goal of health equity, we based our initiatives on the Sustainable Neighborhoods Model, which empowers neighborhoods and community members to be self-reliant in three primary areas: 1) Primary Health Care 2) Education aimed at Self Reliance 3) Social Enterprise At our core, we are a grassroots movement of local physicians, community health workers, civic leaders, and educators working collaboratively to provide comprehensive primary care health through mobile clinics in severely indigent slum communities.
