The British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) is a UK-based Association responsible for the training and licensing of snowsport instructors and coaches. Currently headquartered in Grantown on Spey in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland, BASI provides instructor training pathways in five disciplines; Skiing, Snowboarding, Adaptive, Telemark and Nordic. Over 300 courses are run annually in both the UK and overseas. The BASI qualification is a progressive system starting at Level 1 and moving through to a Level 4 International Ski Teaching Diploma (ISTD). BASI instructors are one of the UK Snowsports industry’s biggest success stories; BASI’s members live and work in 38 countries worldwide and it's qualification pathway is recognised internationally. BASI is a Member of the International Ski Instructors Association (ISIA). BASI work with contracted Business Partners to promote and sell the BASI qualification system and also manage a Quality Assurance Scheme for Ski Schools around the world - The BASI Approved Ski School Scheme. To book a ski instructor course or find out more please visit www.basi.org.uk History of BASI The need for a ski instructor training body was first conceived back in 1962, the first Chairlift had been installed at CairnGorm Mountain (Aviemore) and snowsports had captured the imagination of the UK public driving demand for lessons and so the need for instructors. The British Association of Professional Ski Instructors (BAPSI) held its inaugural meeting in January 1963 at the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore and has been offering instructor training courses ever since.
