Background Offshore & Specialist ships Australia (OSSA) was formed in March 2017 when a group of ex Shipping people determined to do something to preserve the history of specialist ships in Australia. Initially this came about through the decline of the Offshore Oil & Gas sector but quickly expanded to cover all specialist shipping such as Antarctic, Towage, Science, Defence and more. Headquartered in the historic premises of the Mission to Seafarers in Melbourne OSSA has grown considerably due to the energy of members and the strong support of both individuals and shipping organisations. Vision To help make Australia a centre of maritime services excellence in our region providing a strong contribution to Australia’s economic growth. Goals To preserve and publicly display memorabilia associated with the specialist ships and to educate the value of these ships and seafarers to Australia. To work with youth developing knowledge and interest in maritime careers. To work with others towards the creation of a Melbourne Maritime Precinct.
