The seven courses in the APPEMI program have been carefully crafted to provide participants with theory and practice in English-medium instruction. Each 13-hour course focuses on a specific aspect of teaching in an EMI context. These seven courses address: - student motivation and engagement, - instructional design, - teaching disciplinary content in English as an additional language, and - teaching with technology. The program also includes a lesson planning course, and the opportunity to teach and receive feedback on a lesson that incorporates EMI techniques. Cohorts may choose to participate in an optional eighth course, English for Teaching Purposes. This course runs in parallel to the other seven courses, giving participants additional opportunities to learn and practice the oral and written English necessary for success in each APPEMI course, and for providing effective instruction in English-medium contexts. Instructional Approach APPEMI instructors use a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) teaching approach. This approach facilitates learning of both the lesson content and the language used to teach that content. Instructors also model student-centred learning strategies. These approaches offer the dual benefits of enhancing the participants' content and language learning and providing instructional models to follow when participants teach their own students.
