Chequer Mead is the only purpose built theatre and arts centre between London and the South coast – comprising the original Victorian school after which it is named. The centre opened in 1996 with the addition of a 320-seat auditorium which now hosts over 250 events each year. With a number of meeting rooms, a studio and the Greenstede Art Gallery hosting a wide range of artistic activities for all ages and interests, the centre is at the cultural heart of East Grinstead and the surrounding area.
