Morgan Contemporary Glass Gallery

www.morganglassgallery.com

Morgan Contemporary Glass Gallery is the first Pittsburgh art gallery dedicated to exhibiting contemporary studio glass, focusing on sculpture, goblets, and jewelry in glass and mixed media. Located in Pittsburgh's East End, the gallery's neighborhood of Shadyside is home to numerous other galleries and antique stores, specialty shops, coffee houses, and trendy restaurants. Pittsburgh is well known as a city supportive of the arts, and is home to cultural institutions such as the Andy Warhol Museum, the Mattress Factory (contemporary art installations), the Carnegie Museums and Libraries, the Frick Historical Center, as well as the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts (international and local contemporary arts), the Society for Contemporary Craft and the Pittsburgh Glass Center. However, the city lacked a glass gallery until January 1997. Morgan Contemporary Glass Gallery exhibits glass sculpture, goblets, and jewelry from the finest emerging and established artists working in glass today. The jewelry selection ranges from glass beads to the highly sophisticated designs of Karen Gilbert and Beth Williams. Unusual collectible goblets, both functional and sculptural, include Robert Dane's tutti frutti goblets and the sculptural artistry of Shane Fero; other work represents the multifaceted techniques of the studio glass movement, from Jamie Harris' modernist blown and coldworked forms; to Robert Mickelsen's complex flameworked graal sculptures; to Martin Rosol's deceptively simple cut and assembled sculpture and the highly unique, colorful, cast and kilnformed work of Australian Warren Langley.
