A consortium led by Greek construction major Ellaktor has been awarded a USD 4.4 bn contract for the design and construction of the Doha Metro Gold Line. The project is expected to be completed by August 2018. Ellaktor subsidiary Aktor, which has a 32 percent stake in the Alysj joint venture, has signed the contract for the project, which is expected to take 54 months to complete, an Ellaktor statement said. The Gold Line is by far the largest single construction package of the Doha Metro. It traverses Doha from East to West. Doha metro routes The Gold Line will connect the airport’s northern part with Souq Waqif, Msheireb, Bin Mahmoud, Al Sadd and Al Waab. The project includes 32-km of bore tunnelling with a diameter of six metres, tunnelling lined with approximately 128,000 segments, six tunnel boring machines (TBMs) utilised simultaneously, 13 underground stations fitted out with high-end finishes and state of the art mechanical, engineering and plumbing (MEP) systems, 2.5 million cubic metres of excavations for the stations and one million cubic metres of concreting.
