Safari Doctors was founded on the belief that access to healthcare is a right, not a privilege. We are a social enteprise whose mission since 2015 has been to promote the health and well-being of marginalised communities in remote parts of Lamu, Kenya. Each month, the team travels by boat and road to reach those in need of health services. Our team travels to at least 15 villages, reaching over 1,000 patients. Safari Doctors also operates a youth Health Ambassadors programme, engaging young men and women to become community health workers in their communities. As part of our holistic, One Health, approach to community health, our Safari Vet cares for hundreds of animals and helps prevent zoonoses. Safari Doctors is the recipient of the 2017 United Nations in Kenya UN Person of the Year Award, “for the outstanding efforts and commendable work providing medical care to marginalized communities in the far reaching areas of Lamu.”
