The journey of CISDI started in 2010 during the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) era, where the world agreed to strive toward achieving eight development goals: eradicating extreme poverty and hunger; achieving universal primary education; promoting gender equality and empowering women; reducing child mortality; improving maternal health; combatting HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases; ensuring environmental sustainability, and establishing global partnerships for development. Spearheaded by current Minister of Health Nila Moeloek, the Office of President’s Special Envoy (OSE) for MDG were mandated to not only facilitate coordination of MDG attainment efforts of related ministries and local governments, but also act as a driving catalyst among various stakeholders in Indonesia. Upon the mandate, a small but highly efficient organisation of professionals with a diverse range of backgrounds in public health, human-centred development, medical science, economics, behavioural science, and public policy was established. Today, the office transforms into CISDI who continues on into the SDGs framework where it has ventured into previously under-explored areas within the health and well-being sector; supported with an advisory board consisting of experts with stellar reputations from government agencies, academic institutions, and health-profession organizations. Affiliated with the Indonesian CSO Coalition on SDGs, CISDI has a dense network to further cultivate multi-sector partnerships. Its high quality outcomes in projects including strategic planning for public-health related policy advocacy, public campaigns on development issues, and initiating and managing the Pencerah Nusantara program which won Silver Award of the Global Open Government Awards 2015 for improving public service through good governance practices. We strive to provide a critical bridge between community needs and public service delivery utilization under the umbrella of ensuring quality.
