BASE Design Inc. is a new structural engineering firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. Principals Gokhan Akalan and Katy Briggs founded the company to fill what they perceived as a gap in the structural engineering community—a small firm with the ability to provide high quality products. With combined experience of over 22 years in the AEC industry, we have the knowledge and resources to give our clients top notch technical expertise, and because BASE Design is a small company, we have the flexibility tailor our services to each client’s needs. Our Mission: Be the BASE our clients rely on for their structural engineering needs from concept planning through project completion. The principals of BASE Design have worked on a variety of projects in multiple sectors. We have experience with K-12 education, higher education, commercial, government, religious, healthcare, residential, and mission critical projects. We provide structural engineering services -- including design of new buildings, retrofits of existing buildings, evaluations of existing buildings, and peer reviews -- to architects, owners, developers, government agencies, insurance companies, and contractors.
