Shanghai Weiyu High School is a city's key high school established in 1943, among the modern boarding high schools of Shanghai. It was classified as one of the city's first 28 Municipal Experimental High Schools by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission in Feb 2005. President of China 江泽民 (Zemin Jiang) wrote in person the school name on the school's logo and signs. The school name 「位育」(Wei Yu) originated from ancient Chinese literature 《中庸》's paragraph 「致中和，天地位焉，萬物育焉」, and was later interpreted by the first principal of the school 李楚材 (Chucai Li) as the foundation of the educational concept, who was the student of the famous educator 陶行知 (Xingzhi Tao).
