The main house was built in 1695 by the Grove family after the original was burned during the siege of 1690. A continual icon in history, Castle Grove hosted the introduction of Daniel O'Connell that led to him being elected MP and also had a big influence in the life of General Richard Montgomery, a famous soldier in the 1774 American War of Independence. In 1989, Castle Grove became home to the Sweeney family who proudly transformed it into a luxury four star hotel, while preserving the character and beauty of the original house and expansive grounds, overlooking Lough Swilly.
