TNB Research Sdn. Bhd., fondly known as TNBR, has been the in-house solution provider for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) since 1993. Situated in Kajang, Selangor, the Research & Development (R&D) Centre, provides a centralised, one-stop centre for technical solutions and innovation. Streams of solutions developed under various Applied Research projects have been introduced to our parent company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). These solutions have contributed towards improving the overall operational performance of the company in areas such as power plant unplanned outage rate (UOR), transmission system minutes, distribution system average interruption duration index (SAIDI) and many others. While continuing the efforts on operational improvement initiatives in TNB, TNB Research is now are embarking on various Advanced Research projects in positioning TNB to be an early adopters of promising technologies. Currently, TNB Research has also embarked on projects of National interest. One such project is the Floating solar project where TNB Research has installed a floating solar system at Labu Lake. In 2012, TNBR established its own subsidiary, TNBR QATS Sdn. Bhd. to focus on delivering World Class Services to industries. On 1 March 2019, TNBR QATS was renamed to TNB Labs Sdn. Bhd.
