The Ugly Fruit Group is a social enterprise established in 2019 within the Enactus framework. Our ethos is that there is a fundamental disconnect between two of the main issues facing our current and future society: food insecurity and food waste. We take fruits and vegetables that are otherwise destined for landfill and divert them through two avenues. Firstly, the best quality produce is sent directly to food banks around north-east England to supplement the emergency food parcels they donate which often lack fresh produce. That which is not donated is turned into delicious products sold at pop-up markets around Durham city. Our range of products varies depending on our supply but ranges from cakes to jams, kimchi to passata.
