www.somalicashconsortium.soThrough the Somali Cash Consortium, INGOs and Somali authorities, funded by institutional donors support vulnerable Somali households with unconditional mobile money cash transfers. Somalia’s Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA), in partnership with the Somali Cash Consortium and funded by the European Union Trust Fund’s Inclusive Local and Economic Development (ILED) Programme, provides Social transfers to 265,000 people are part of a long-term Somali safety net. MoLSA and the Consortium will support youth to access skills training, families with infants supported in their first 1,000 days and the elderly protected from the impacts of Covid-19. The Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), funds life-saving humanitarian and shock responsive transfers, linking emergency cash to Social Protection, to reduce household consumption gaps (primarily food) in the most affected districts in Somalia. The Consortium specifically targets populations in IPC3 and 4, especially the newly displaced, locust impacted and worst affected pastoralist/agro-pastoralist communities. Since the Cash Consortium began work in Jan 2018, it has assisted over 300,000 Somalis. It builds better and more robust cash transfer systems by working with all stakeholders to streamline each stage of the cash-transfer process, from community registrations to payment aggregation, reporting, forecasting and coordination.
