In an ideal education system, every student could receive the individual attention, time, and instruction from their teacher to ensure that the content taught in school is fully understood. However, many teachers rarely have the time during class to sit down with a student and explain the content comprehensively. This is especially true when students are lacking knowledge on a fundamental level. It is unrealistic for a teacher to explain advanced concepts such as algebraic equations when a student does not have a firm understanding of basic arithmetic. Unfortunately, this means that many students fall behind in class. Traditionally many students and their families would turn to tutoring services to help them; however, it must be acknowledged that this is not an option for many - especially those from low socio-economic backgrounds. By providing a not-for-profit alternative to tutoring for low socio-economic students, we move closer to achieving equitable education in Australia.
