Founder and Director of this unique facility to bring modern visual and digital astronomy to life for visiting Maine families, school students, and tourists through hands on two-hour “guided tours” featuring visual observations through a telescope, combined with digital picture taking through the same telescope. Hundreds of students, families, and tourists have enjoyed our astronomy tours or advanced astronomy projects. In more recent years, BPO now offers a variety of hands on advanced projects for astronomy projects such as tracking asteroids and their rotation, variable star studies, moon shadows, and other great STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) projects. Newest capabilities added is a high speed video camera for close-up views of planets or the moon, and expanded robotic control systems to allow the telescope and camera to be used all night long for projects by using advanced observing scripts.
