Blue Heaven is dedicated to providing safe, high-quality therapeutic horseback riding experiences designed to strengthen the minds and bodies of its clients with physical or emotional disabilities. Blue Heaven’s operations currently support three distinct programs. The Hippotherapy Program is designed to provide clients with physical disabilities the opportunity to experience the strength, mobility and confidence that comes when the client is paired with a seasoned therapy horse, licensed physical therapist, and trained instructor. The Equine Assisted Behavioral Program targets at-risk individuals who have been identified displaying dangerous behaviors. In these sessions, we partner a seasoned therapy horse with a group of six to eight children who engage in activities that address trust, cooperation, self-confidence, respect for authority, and the consequences of behaviors. The program, designed to maximize the interaction of the students with each other and with the horses for specific outcomes, provides our clients the unique opportunity to learn and grow in self-esteem, appropriate response, anger management, impulse control, trust, and respect. The Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Program provides psychotherapy for individuals, families, and groups that are similar in nature to traditional mental health counseling sessions. However, an experienced therapy horse is used as a therapeutic bridge to stimulate communication and healing between the client and counselor. This program teams a Blue Heaven instructor with either a school district counselor or a licensed counselor. We also plan to offer sessions that address alcohol and substance abuse issues in the future.
