City Year Little Rock (CYLR) bridges the gap between what schools are designed to provide and what students need to succeed. We recruit, hire, train, and support AmeriCorps members (ACMs) ages 17 – 25 from diverse backgrounds to serve full-time in Little Rock public schools, helping ensure all children, regardless of race or economic background, receive an excellent education. ACMs provide student success coaching for attendance, literacy and math skills, and social-emotional well-being to help students build the confidence, self-esteem, academic, and soft skills required to succeed and thrive. Through our service, we contribute to a clearer and bolder vision of what public schools can be for all children: places of learning, exploration, and risk-taking where every student feels connected to the school community and has access to positive relationships and personalized learning environments. City Year works to advance diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) in education by creating learning environments where all students can build on their strengths and fully engage in their learning. Educational equity means eliminating the predictability of student success or failure based on race, income, or any other identity marker; we are able to succeed in this work by prioritizing our values of DEIB. At City Year, these values are more than just an acronym: they are a way in which we operate to make sure our students feel valued and invested in. The students we serve see themselves reflected in our mentors and in our decisions. City Year’s vision is that, alongside out partners, we work toward racial and educational equity, and improve outcomes for students. It is our hope that this vision unites us through a shared purpose to work as one community with one goal of ensuring that all children are provided the environment, supports, and opportunities to succeed in school and in life. https://linktr.ee/cityyearlittlerock
