The Corporate Governance Committee was established on 22 January 2004. The Committee was created on the initiative of the Banking, Finance and Insurance Commission (FSMA), the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium (FEB) and Euronext Brussels. In May 2007, the Committee became a private foundation and was expanded to include certain stakeholders, such as the Institute of Registered Auditors, the Central Economic Council (CEC) and the Belgian Association of Listed Companies. The Corporate Governance Committee's main objective is to ensure that the Belgian Corporate Governance Code's provisions remain relevant to listed companies and are regularly updated in line with practice, legislation and international standards. The Committee is assisted in its work by a Permanent Working Group. In addition, the Committee makes use of ad hoc working groups that deepen specific themes or write explanatory notes.
