Research shows that all students, and especially students of color, thrive academically when educated by teachers of color. Yet while students of color make up 52% of those in U.S. schools, teachers of color make up only 21% of all public school teachers. At a time when schools need more educators of color, a lack of effective and sufficient support - throughout the pipeline - has exacerbated the wide representation gap between teachers and students of color. A startling 40% of U.S. schools do not have a single teacher of color. Teachers need ongoing, personalized support. We are excited to be part of the solution. We are growing a national network of teacher mentors, and a database of effective resources, to provide anytime, personalized support to ensure all teachers are edified and thriving, to the benefit of the students they serve. Program and district partnerships will allow for recommended resources to be aligned directly with program and/or district teaching and learning priorities. Rather than paying out of pocket like so many teachers do now through current options, which only add to teachers’ frustration, a partnership with Edifying Teachers will provide teachers with access to the support they need, at no cost to them.
