The Pontifical Mission Societies provide for a global network of priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay pastoral workers who are proclaiming the Gospel and serving the poor, making the difference for the poor and forgotten. MISSIO is the official online crowdfunding platform of the Holy Father's own Pontifical Mission Societies. Pope Francis launched MISSIO in May 2013 as a way to disseminate news of the heroic work being done worldwide by missionaries, local clergy and lay people. In 2015, the MISSIO experience was expanded to include more opportunities to connect with and support the missions of the Catholic Church. The Pontifical Mission Societies are institutions of the Universal Catholic Church and of each local church. National offices exist in more than 120 countries around the world including the United States. Central administrative offices are located in Rome, Italy, under the direction of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and the Holy Father.
