The European Membrane Institute (ENSCM, UM, CNRS UMR5635), founded in 1994, is an international reference laboratory in the field of membrane materials and processes. Its research objectives revolve around a multidisciplinary and multi-scale approach of: development and characterization of new membrane materials; their implementation in membrane processes whose particular application for the treatment of effluents, gas separation, biotechnology in connection with food science and health. The IEM is labeled Institut Carnot by its active participation in the Carnot Institute "Chimie Balard Cirimat". At the local level, the IEM is part of the Pôle Chimie Balard, with ICGM (UMR 5253), IBMM (UMR 5247) and ICSM (UMR 5754). As a center of excellence supported by the Occitanie region, its objective is to bring together research, teaching and valorization.
