Collections Carnegie-Stout Public Library serves the Dubuque and surrounding communities with a collection of over 270,000 volumes, 600 periodical and newspaper subscriptions, and a wide variety of audio and video materials. Collections of special note are an obituary file dating to the late 1850s and a newspaper index to the Telegraph Herald and other local newspapers. Special Holdings & Services Other special holdings include an Iowa and genealogical section. A volunteer genealogist is available most Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. to assist patrons. The Youth Services Department places an emphasis on the emerging literacy needs of the youngest children, providing programs and materials for children of all age as well as materials and services to teens. Electronic Services The Library offers electronic informational databases as well as downloadable audio and video. Twenty-seven Internet access computers are available (16 in Adult Services, six in Youth Services, and five in the Teen Zone) as well as 35 laptop computers that can be used with the Library’s wireless network in any part the facility.
