Friends Action North East is a charity based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Since 2004, we have supported adults with learning disabilities and/or autism to develop and maintain friendships. We facilitate this through the frequent provision of social events, tailored guidance, information on local businesses/organisations, and much more. FANE consists of a small team of staff and a large team of volunteers. We are continually seeking new volunteers to help us achieve our objectives, with the following roles available: • Friendship Mentor — Supporting individuals (usually paired with one person) • Digital Volunteer — Maintenance of the charity's website and social media • Group Support — Supporting group socials Our current ongoing project is the North East Accessibility Rating (NEAR) Guide. We are engaging with various organisations around the North East to support this. Through our website's map tool, we hope users can visit some of these locations and review them on their respective pages (e.g. accessibility, friendliness of staff). Every year, we recognise the highest rated locations with one of our NEAR Awards.
