ECOTIC was founded in 2006 and was authorized by the Ministry of the Environment in 2007 having the operating license 001 and right now has 380 producers and importers. ECOTIC is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect the environment by taking on the responsibility of the producers and importers of electrical and electronic equipment for achievement of the annual collection, reuse, recycling and recovery target of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). ECOTIC constantly develops its infrastructure for collection of WEEE and the management of the WEEE flows: collection points and generators - collection operators - treatment operators - recovery operators. ECOTIC constantly organizes awareness campaigns both through collection campaigns, national campaigns in schools and also by the campaigns targeting companies and institutions. ECOTIC is a member of the international organization WEEE Forum, in this way ECOTIC has access to the latest information about collection and recycling of WEEE at an international level. In its seven years of existence and experience in collecting and recycling WEEE, ECOTIC handled over 49,000 tons of WEEE in its system. 3870 refurbished computers from WEEE flows were donated to underprivileged communities, with the support ECOTIC. In 2013 we have 509 collecting points, developed in collaborations with the local authorities, sanitation, retail and specialized operators. Since the founding of the Association, over 80 collection and awareness campaigns developed in the country have worn the ECOTIC’s signature. For more information, www.ecotic.ro
