The Country Liberal Party of the Northern Territory is the Territory Party. The Country Liberal Party (CLP) is a political party that was formed in 1974. From 2009 until mid 2017, the Party was known as the Country Liberals (Northern Territory). We are led by Country Liberal Leader, Gary Higgins MLA and Deputy Country Liberal Leader, Lia Finocchiaro MLA. The Country Liberal Party is represented in the Australian Parliament by Northern Territory Senator the Hon. Nigel Scullion, Minister for Indigenous Affairs and Leader of the Nationals in the Senate. The party played a major role in the development of the Northern Territory governing from the moment the Territory achieved self-governance in 1978 to 2001. The Country Liberal Party were reelected to Government in mid 2012, serving in this capacity until mid 2016. In 1979, the Country Liberal Party formally affiliated with both the Liberal Party of Australia and the National Party of Australia. These affiliations remain to this day.
